Montevalle Health & Wellness Resort

Updated: May 21, 2023

One of the best decisions I've made this year was getting away from city life and escaping to Montevalle Mexico’s newest luxury all-inclusive retreat center. This adults-only 14-villa resort in the heart of the Guadalupe Valley, in Baja California, Mexico.

The resort is owned and operated by Dr. Carlos Bautista, who has devoted his medical career to research and practice with natural and holistic therapies.

The Property

Aserene environment set on ten acres, surrounded by the land’s immense boulders, olive trees and lavender fields, the property features a reflexology path, meditation labyrinth, heated pool and Jacuzzi, Spa, Gym, Tennis Court, and an innovative detox and wellness program.

The Amenities:

Places to relax and unwind on property include a pool, jacuzi, hammocks, fire pit

The Rooms

The resort’s fourteen villas (soon to be 20) include six rooms with two double beds, six with California Kings and two with Kings. All rooms feature panoramic views and private wooden terraces with swing chairs, and several of the rooms have interior mezzanines.

Interior designer Mariana Postlethwaite of Casa Duhagon in Tijuana in collaboration with the owner's vision designed rooms and public spaces that encourage immediate relaxation upon entry. The eclectic style combines rustic lines inspired by country hotels with more contemporary elements. Natural materials such as rattan, liana, wood and yarn complement the lacquered wood and concrete. The color palette is influenced by the land and surroundings, creating a feeling of belonging to the space.

The Treatmeants

The resort provides an exclusive and tranquil space for guests to detox, boost and restore their health through the most comprehensive therapeutic protocols existing today. Treatments such as Biomagnetic therapy, Rife therapy, Mag Ray therapy, hyperbaric oxygen (pictured below), pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, laser therapy and UVBI therapy. In addition, one may benefit from other integrative therapies, including wine therapy to relax and stimulate the immune system. The wine therapy was one of my favorites, It's an exfoliating massage - the scrub, cream and oil used in the massage are all from the grapes grown on the property's vineyard, when the massage is over you get a wine scented body wash and are sent off to the shower to wash off the scrub, followed by fifteen minutes in the steam room. I felt so light, loose, and relaxed after.

The hyperbaric oxygen chamber, looks a little scary, but It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, they seal you in there for 15 minutes and it fills up with oxygen. The pressure is similar to the pressure in a plane at takeoff. You'll have to keep yawning to pop your ears as it fills but after about two minutes you just lay there and take in the air.

What we ate

Chef Raul Nuñez and his team provide three healthy meals and snacks daily for each individual wellness plan. The restaurant menu changes constantly based on the seasons and what local produce is most readily available. He is passionate about creating vibrant, delicious, and healthy meals using high-quality local and seasonal ingredients.

The Wine

Wine isn't really part of the detox program, but It is wine country afterall. Montevalle grows their own Grenache grapes brought in from France. Make sure to pick some up at the gift shop before heading back home. I know I did!

Montevalle provides opportunities for visitors to come for the day or stay longer for a leisurely pace. Montevalle’s One Day Plan is ideal for those looking for a taste of the experience In addition, the Optimal Plan provides complete detoxification and restoration for those seeking a more robust retreat, featuring a total treatment program with Dr. Bautista’s custom-designed therapies. Rates begin at $250 for the One Day Plan, $495 for the Superior Plan, and $545 for the Optimal Plan.
